Another Bruce Lee biopic could be on the cards

When I was young I loved watching Marshal Bravestar, Samurai Pizza Cats and He Man, but there was no one that I wanted to be more than the sprightly figure of Bruce Lee. To me (and most of the world) he embodied the best of the best. He was quick, strong, and had crazy cat-like calls when he was about to grind you into a red paste. He basically kicked ass, and a lot of it. I bought his books and even studied Kung Fu for a few years because of him. I also watched, and very much enjoyed, his biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story with Jason Scott Lee pulling off a convincing master of the martial arts. Damn he was GOOD!

But as with all things in Hollywood, when you make something that works, YOU MAKE IT AGAIN! So a new biopic has been announced by BruceLee.com (via JoBlo), but this time round though the Lee family want to be involved so as to create a movie that fully covers all the details of the legend’s life. His daughter Shannon Lee said:

There have been projects out there involving my father, but they’ve lacked a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry. They haven’t captured the essence of his beliefs in martial arts or storytelling. The only way to get audiences to understand the depth and uniqueness of my father is to generate our own material and find amazing, like-minded partners to work with.

I for one am a huge fan of his and if they can find someone like Jason Scott Lee to play Bruce Lee I would be so happy I’d kung fu kick myself in the head! I can’t think of anyone that comes close to his physical appearance, can you?

  1. I too am a HUGE Bruce Lee fan! And I LOVED Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. I also loved how they focused on his life in that movie, not this death (coz, to this day, there’s so much debate as to what killed him)… It was an epic movie! And It is in my Top 10 movies of all time – one of those movies I can, literally, watch back-to-back again and again without fatigue.

So for them to make another… Yeah, they have some big shoes to fill. But with the Lee Family’s involvement, it can and should be really good. I, for one, am looking forward to this. Hope it turns out as good, if not better, than Dragon… It’s what Bruce Lee deserves!
