Arnold Schwarzenegger updates us on the new CONAN movie

While at the peak of his body building career in the late 1970’s, a couple of movie producers saw a rough cut of Pumping Iron featuring young Arnold Schwarzenegger and knew right then that they had their guy, giving him his big Hollywood break in Conan The Barbarian. The Governator’s star has risen a lot since then, and with him appearing in over 30 movies he has certainly had plenty of time to hone his craft.

But for a while now there’s been talk that he would be back as the character that truly turned him into a global movie star (sorry, Hercules In New York, we barely remember you), and at an “Experience with Arnold Schwarzenegger” expo recently, fans were treated to some information about the long gestating Legend of Conan from the star himself – including a new title.

 Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of a sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done.

So Conan the Conqueror will be Arnold’s return to his breakthrough role, but by the time the cameras start rolling on this one the former Mr Universe will be nearly 70 years old. Do you really think he could still handle the physical demands to play this character? Here’s what Arnie had to say about that.

One of the advantages for when you train every day, when you bicycle everyday, when you work out every day is that age is not registering in the body the same with everyone else. Because when you stay in shape, you do turn back the clock. So I feel great and the last few movies that I’ve done, I’ve done many of my own stunts. I did all the physical stuff and it didn’t wipe me out and I have plenty of energy and feel really terrific. So I am absolutely convinced that I can do the Conan movie and do the horseback riding, the sword fights and all the fighting.

If the king of one liners says he in the perfect shape for the job who am I to disagree. I think this story will work and this could be a good movie in the right hands. And with the Terminator franchise recently put on hold due to poor box office results for Terminator Genisys, this could be just the career move The Last Action Hero needs.

Schwarzenegger has confirmed that the script is written and they are just looking for a director, but there is no mention of a release date as yet though.
