Avengers: Infinity War will have an expanded role for Star Lord

Who

Marvel movies may have a ton of heroes populating them right now, but everybody loves that one charming rogue with a heart of gold and dry wit. No, not Iron Man. Or Ant-Man. Or Loki. No dammit I mean Star Lord! Chris Pratt’s big break in cinema (next to that scene where Professor X removed several of his teeth with a keyboard) in Guardians of the Galaxy gave the world a hero that everyone could relate to.

An Indiana Jones for a cosmic age, Star Lord was everybody’s favourite fella in his first Marvel movie. With every Marvel heavyweight and their aunt scheduled to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, the Guardians will also be making an appearance as the fight against Thanos gets turned up to 11 when the Infinity Stones are added to the mix.

But don’t expect Star Lord’s role to be a mere cameo, as Marvel is currently looking to beef his position in the MCU up with a bigger part to play in that film and even beyond. That’s according to Schmoes Know via io9, whose sources say that Star Lord will have a “sizable” role “as the Avengers join up with him as they take on a new cosmic threat.” As the first Guardian the Avengers meet up with, the source says that the rest of the team will be saved for a bigger appearance in the fourth Avengers film.

And it kind of makes sense. Even though director James Gunn has said several times before that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 won’t focus on the Infinity Stones again, the threads are already in place to give Star Lord a bigger seat in the MCU as a main-eventer. And really, who can find fault with Marvel movies having more Chris Pratt in them?

Before that happens though, Marvel has one hell of a schedule to finish up on first that includes Doctor Strange next month, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in May 2017, Spider-Man: Homecoming in July, Thor: Ragnarok in November and Black Panther for February 2017. And then we’ll get to see if Steve Rogers will accept a challenge to a dance-off against Star-Lord in May 2018 for Avengers: Infinity War.
