Producer Joel Silver must be a happy man. He’s finally got himself a writer for the film adaptation of Ben Ten, a film that is rich in merchandising potential.
Albert Torres has been tapped to pen the script for the film, which Silver describes as a “big-budget, tentpole, action driven adventure”, presumably with the weight to kick off a new arm of the franchise”.For those of you unfamiliar with the premise, Ben Ten stars a young child by the name of Ben Tennyson, who bonds with a watch-like device that allows him to transform into one of ten different alien species for a short time.
Together with his cousin Gwen and Grandfather Max, the trio took on all manners of extra and regular terrestrial dangers that threatened the planet, while making new friends and allies and uncovering secrets.
Thats the basis of the original cartoon show, which became a hit and spawned more series, games, merchandise and two made-for-TV movies, which even starred Lee Majors as the older Grandpa Max.
Torres’ previous writing credits include Very Bad Things, Henry Poole is here and an attempt at the living abortion that is Akira. Silver has yet to find a studio or director for the film project yet, but it’s a potentially lucrative franchise that shouldn’t have a problem finding investors.
