Ever since Disney acquired Marvel, I’ve been hoping that they’d put one of their various animation departments to good use, crafting an animated film based on one of their various comics. And my wish was granted! But it wasn’t going to be a big name property such as Iron Man or Thor. It was going to be a movie based on a lesser-known comic. Here’s the first teaser trailer for Big Hero 6. You might want to suck your gut in for this.

“Big Hero 6″ is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6″ is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”).

There’s not too much to take away from that trailer just yet, but the animation does look fantastic at least. Right now though, this could be the best of both worlds. Disney is experiencing an animated resurgence as of late thanks to films such as Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph and Tangled, and merging that animated talent with their powerhouse franchise-maker is good business. Big Hero 6 opens on November 7 and stars the voices of T.J. Miller, Maya Rudolph, and Jamie Chung.
