One of the best series that I have seen in a long time was the totally awesome Emmy winning HBO crime thriller True Detective. Not only did the show boast an amazing storyline that jumped between past and present but also two of the best performances from Woody Allen and Matthew McConaughey. So it’s with great anticipation that I look forward to season 2 of the anthology series as it focuses on a new story and new actors.
One of the actors that has been rumoured for a leading role for while now was Colin Farrell, who has now finally confirmed to The Sunday World (via Collider) that he’s on board, which leaves me giddy with excitement! Rumours are that Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch may also be joining but that hasn’t been confirmed (or denied) yet, along with recent reports that previously mentioned Elizabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams are now among a whopping nine actresses vying for the female lead! They include such long names as Jessica Biel and Lady Sif herself, Jaime Alexander, but apparently the favourite is none other than Rosario Dawson.
Along with the confirmation that Farrell was joining writer-creator Nic Pizzolatto’s second season, a semi-teaser of a logline was also revealed saying that the show “looks set to pick up on the vicious murder of a corrupt businessman found dead the night before he completes a deal”. Nice!
Farrell also said his character is named Ray Velcaro, someone “who has been damaged by years of trauma in both his personal and professional lives.” I look forward to seeing Farrell play a serious role and with Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) rumoured to direct the first two episodes, I think we are in store for another great season. Whether they can keep the same level of awesomeness as the first season is something I also look forward to seeing.
