For a guy that has a habit of remaking a ton of films, the one flick that Tim Burton hasn’t touched is Beetlejuice. It doesn’t even need a remake though, because a sequel would be most welcome, and Michael Keaton could easily slap on the make up for another stab at the 1988 original.
And it looks like those plans are moving forward.
According to the Wrap, a Beetlejuice sequel is in the works at Warner Bros, with Burton being offered the chance to come and direct it. This isn’t the first time that Beetlejuice sequel plans have been floating around. Back in the 90s, Burton was attached to a sequel idea called Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian, which would have seen the ghoul get up to all manner of shenanigans in a tropical paradise. That project however, never made it past the screenplay stage of development.
David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are working on the script for the new stab at the sequel. And I bet Burton would return in a heartbeat if Johnny Depp got attached to the movie.

1. Michael Keaton IS Beetlejuice.
2. Screw Johnny Depp and Tim Burton already. That shit was fun for a while but it’s stale now.

What if Michael Keaton returns as Beetlejuice and Johnny Depp plays some kind of bad guy rival spirit? I wouldn’t mind seeing Depp play a villain…

Might work but I think you hit the nail on the head in your other post.

Beetlejuice was a product of its time and a complete underdog film. A high budget remake more than two decades later is almost certain to be a soulless disaster.
