For those of you who haven’t jumped on the Elysium hype train yet, where the hell have you been? Easily one of the most anticipated films for 2013, Neill Blomkamp’s star is seemingly shining very bright and even though it hasn’t been released yet, we are already receiving news regarding his next film, Chappie.

Yes folks, we finally have a director dedicated to bringing us good sci-fi. The end is nigh! As with District 9, Chappie will be loosely based on one of his earlier short films, called Tetra Vaal, which sees police robots patrolling South Africa’s slums and as per Comingsoon, we can expect to see Blomkamp’s frequent collaborator, Sharlto Copley, as one of these police robots.

I’m also quite excited about the fact that the film will also star zef rappers Die Antwoord, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja, as themselves. You better believe it! The latest news, however, is regarding Dev “Slumdog Millionare” Patel being in talks for the human lead in the film, a resident of the robot-patrolled slums. Interesting choice, but (pending the release of Elysium), in Blomkamp we trust. Patel has had a bit of a rocky film career of late, starring in M. Night’s horrible The Last Airbender film, before being seen again in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. He can currently be seen in HBO’s The Newsroom.

Chappie will feature the same writing and producing team as Elysium, so it seems like Blomkamp has found his winning team and I, for one, love that fact that he only attaches himself to projects that interests him. Take some notes, Hollywood! All I know is, I’m hoping Sharlto Copley channels his best Bender ‘Bending’ Rodriquez impression…”Kill all humans!”

To get a taste for Chappie, take a look at Blomkamp’s Tetra Vaal short. Does anyone have an address where I can start sending Neill some creepy fan mail? I’m just finishing up a macaroni portrait in his likeness.
