English trailer for Russian superhero film GUARDIANS

2 min read

I do enjoy my superhero movies but they all seem to be rather… American, which is why I am very excited for the upcoming Guardians. This time round our DNA mutated X-Men Guardians are from Mother Russia, a point only made 500 or so times in this 2:15 English trailer. I must say that it will take a little to get used to the rather bad dubbing but this is Russian into English so deal with it!

It does look pretty damn good though. The production values look on a par with Marvel and the story sounds like, well, something from Marvel or any comic book plot. Here’s the gist:

Set during the Cold War, a secret organization named “Patriot” gathered a group of Soviet superheroes, altering and augmenting the DNA of four individuals, in order to defend the homeland from supernatural threats.

The group includes representatives of the different nationalities of the Soviet Union, which each one of them have long been hiding their true identity. In hard times, they settled down to business and gather to defend their homeland.

This is the new trailer, which I think offers far less than the other that came out earlier this year. Still, marketing stuff!

And here’s the one from earlier this year which gives you a much better understanding of things, not to mention some awesome battles with rockets, shields, and a minigun toting Wolfman! YES! MOAR PLEASE!

Yup. sounds like a familiar plot. But hey, all these superhero movies are basically the same (ducks as Kerv throws a paper mache Captain America shield at my head). I am rather intrigued by this to be honest. I saw the Russian trailer a while ago and thought, sweet, I wonder whether they will adapt it to an English market and it looks like they are.

The film is directed by  Sarik Andreasyan, who also directed American Heist (which was not that great), and stars Sebastien Sisak, Anton Pampuchniy, Sanzhar Madiev, Alina Lanina, Valeria Shkirando and Stanislav Shirin, none of whom I have heard of before (although one does bare an uncanny resemblance to Chris Evans).

The English version should be out next year with a sequel already greenlit.

  1. Just worried that this movie would be ruined by really terrible voice dubbing O_o
