Director Robert Zemeckis’ filmography reads like a Hollywood greatest hits compilation from the last four decades: Back To The Future Trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Contact, Flight and much more. So you damned well know that I’m always paying attention to what he does next. Especially when its Allied, a new WWI spy thriller/romantic drama penned by Steven Knight, the guy behind Eastern Promises and the incredible Locke.
And if for some reason that isn’t enough to get you stoked for this movie, then as the two WWII spies who meet and fall in love during a deadly operation, Zemeckis has cast Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, both of whom have a trail of accolades too long for me to list here. So yes, you could say that I’m more than a little hyped up for this movie, especially after checking out its first trailer that was released of the weekend.
Have a look for yourself!
“Allied” is the story of intelligence officer Max Vatan (Pitt), who in 1942 North Africa encounters French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Reunited in London, their relationship is threatened by the extreme pressures of the war.
And if you need any more convincing, Allied also stars the always good Lizzy Caplan, Jared Harris and Matthew Goode. It is scheduled for release in the US on 23 November, but we’ll have to wait slightly longer till 2 December.
