As many of you may know my man crush for Chris Pratt is as legendary as the levels of Trevor’s depravity, a crush that started with the oh-so-awesome Guardians of the Galaxy! I also have great respect for James Gunn, a risky choice to helm a huge Marvel movie as his only other ‘major’ work was Slither. So I follow both, in the same sort of way people do with cameras outside your bathroom window at 3 in the morning… So when I saw Gunn announce cast and a teaser image on his Facebook wall I lost my mind!

Firstly the biggest news comes in the form of confirmation of abound rumours, that being Kurt Russell would be joining the cast. Yes, THE Kurt Russell of Escape from New York fame and more recently The Hateful Eight! I can only assume that he will step into the roll as Star Lord’s Father, J’son, or Jason of Spartax (SPARTA!), Emperor of the Spartoi Empire. Many assume the plot of the second movie will be Quill’s search for his father and this practically confirms it.

I can completely get behind this as Russell not only has that grizzly appearance that befits a kick-ass warrior but is also able to pull off comedy, which Guardians did so well at. It would also seem that Gunn is very pleased at his joining the cast as he said on Facebook yesterday:

My favorite movie as a small child was The Strongest Man in the World, so I’m glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and, yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined.

Man that makes me so happy! I won’t bore you with detailing the rest of the cast when I can get the actual director to do that for me, Gunn, tell them!

The last few days around here with him (Russell) and our other new cast members, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan, have been some of the best of my life. I never thought anyone was missing from our island of misfit toys, but now that these folks are here there feels like there was.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, and Glenn Close are all returning.
We’ll have more surprises for you in the coming months. But, for now, this will have to do.

And will do it does. Glad to see Glenn Close appear, her role in the first movie was very minor but when she was on screen she was great. So, without further ado here is the first teaser picture!

And a few more images of Gunn and the core cast rehearsing…

EXCITE! Of course we see a rather small Groot here which is to be expected when falling from the stratosphere in a sphere of plant-like protection. I’m just surprised Drax is allowing him/her/it? on his shoulder. I do think it amusing that it took the director such a long time to decide on the name of the sequel and he goes with ‘Vol.2‘, like, duh! I just hope that people are not all Marvelled out by the time it arrives next year. It surprised everyone with its haul of $770m when it came out and I hope it can exceed that the second time around.

Expect me to be in a state of frenzy when the movie lands 5 May, 2017.
