If there’s one thing that I’ve learnt as an amateur vigilante, besides the fact that no amount of training can prepare you for a taser attack, it’s that clothes do make the man. And in the case of a superhero, doubly so. The fastest man alive is running out of Arrow and into his own series soon. Here’s an official peek at the duds that the Flash will be wearing.
Well move along heat resistant spandex, because I’m digging the crimson speedster suit here. It’s got all the right iconic notes for me, and having the infamous ear-pieces closer to the cowl instead of jutting out like warp fuel cells on a Star Trek spaceship works wonders. As Kervyn pointed out, it has a clear influence from the 2013 video game Injustice: Gods Among Us, but to a less gaudy effect. The suit was designed by Colleen Atwood, who also came up with the design for the costume in Arrow. Nice to see some continuity with this.
You know what I love most about this photo? It’s that Gustin is smiling. This is a Barry Allen who is clearly going to relish having powers, and should be a tonally opposite show to the grim and gritty side of the quiver shown in Arrow. I’m not saying that it’ll all be hugs, kisses and sunshine, but the Flash can hopefully be the kind of series that has time to enjoy itself. Set in Keystone City, The Flash deals with forensic scientist barry Allen, who after a freak accident involving various chemicals and some lightning, finds himself imbued with Speed Force powers that make him the fastest man alive.
The pilot episode will start filming soon, with hopefully an entire series following in 2014/2015.
