Hey Hollywood, put Tom Hanks in a superhero movie already!

There’s something about superhero movies, that really attracts top notch talent. Kevin Spacey, Sally Fields, Kevin Costner and Jack Nicholson are just some of the actors who have had a turn either wearing or battling a cape. One Hollywood heavyweight who hasn’t appeared in such a film though?

Tom Hanks. And he’s kinda sad about that.

Tom Hanks ist von der deutschen Filmgeschichte begeistert

Speaking to the  Showbiz 411 interview (via Comic Book Movie), Hanks revealed how he had yet to even be offered a job in a comic book film. And that’s the one genre that he’d really dig to play a part in:

They don’t ask me, man. I keep trying… Come on, I can do it. I can do it. Even let me play a bad guy, let me play the bad guy against Batman. I’ll do anything, call me. They’ve never asked. What do I gotta do? God, I want to throw a shield at somebody. I want that. And I don’t want to play the guy in the suit who tells the superheroes what’s going on, I don’t want to be that guy. ‘Well, you know Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, here’s what we’ve discovered,’ I don’t want to be that guy. I want to get in there, I want to play The Flash or something like that. They’ll never give me a chance.

I could see Tom Hanks headlining a hero film. Personally, I’d dig to see him as a villain, telling Superman that life is like a box of kryptonite in the Man of Steel sequel. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a character that he couldn’t play. I think he’d make a great Dr Strange, or as Kervyn said with his oddball idea, an Elongated Man. But dammit Hollywood, slap some tights on Hanks already. He ain’t getting any younger. Which character would you dig to see him portray?

Plastic Man, rather than Elongated Man – their faces are already kind of similar…

Ohh, though call really. He has a nice face, too nice, a ‘let’s be friends’ face. He would have to work on looking like he wants to eat your liver before he could pull off a baddie I think.

Then again, I actually think that because of that very reason he looks like a nice guy would make him a fantastic villain.
