One of the sad realities of growing up is that we lose touch with so many of our memories. Or even what we did this morning. Or what our spouses asked us to do five minutes ago. If there was a way for us to relive our most cherished memories, especially the happy ones, most of us definitely would.

One of the sad realities of growing up is that we lose touch with so many of our memories. Or even what we did this morning…wait a minute.

This is the premise for Hugh Jackman’s upcoming thriller Reminiscence, which sees Jackman star as a private investigator of the mind by the name of Nick Bannister. Bannister helps his clients by accessing lost memories but things change when he meets Mae (Rebecca Ferguson) and becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth about her disappearance. Along the way, he discovers a violent conspiracy and ultimately finds himself forced to confront how far he’s willing to go to find her.

It’s certainly an intriguing idea, but perhaps made even more interesting when you consider it is written and directed by Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy (making her directorial debut here), meaning that you know the story won’t be straightforward and will probably have many deep layers to unpack. And thanks to this new teaser that Jackman posted on Instagram, we finally have an idea of what we could possibly expect from the mind-bending film:

Well, this certainly looks intriguing. I definitely get Inception-type vibes from the setting and the type of world that Joy is building here with a story that will no doubt leave you thinking about the complexity of your memories, like The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind did. I love movies that can take you into new places and challenge your mind and this certainly looks like one of those movies that are going to do that, so I certainly look forward to it.

The film is scheduled for release on September 3 in both theatres and on HBO Max, as per Warner Bros. current release plan, and also stars Thandie Newton, Daniel Wu, Cliff Curtis, and Nico Parker.
