Let’s face facts: Our beloved former president isn’t going to be around for much longer. But after 94 years of activisim, politics and fund-raising for those who need it, he’s led a hell of a life. And of course, Hollywood loves that kind of true to life story. Long in development, the autobiographical book of the president Long Walk to Freedom is finally moving ahead at full steam, with none other than Idris Elba as Madiba himself.
So how does he look in the actual role? Like a troublemaker apparently.
Adapted from the 1994 book and armed with a script by William “Gladiator” Nicholson, the film will follow him from his youth, through to his imprisonment on Robben Island and his later political career in post-apartheid South Africa. The poster itself from THR looks like it’ll examine the more turbulent part of his life, where the injustices of that day made him an angry man. And you wouldn’t like Mandela when he’s angry.
The film also stars Naomi Harris, as the defrauding, murdering waste of human organs known as Winnie Madizikela, with Justin Chadwick directing. Elba will be taking that long walk to freedom, November 29.

I will only go to watch this if there is a chance that Mandela bellows that “TONIGHT, WE ARE CANCELLING APARTHEID!”
History be damned.
