Jim Carrey has been a busy guy the last while, playing a rival magician to Steve Carell’s Burt Wonderstone and also kicking some major ass as General Stars and Stripes in Kick-ass 2. It seems he is going back to his roots for his next film, as he will be headlining in Steve Oedekerk’s new comedy, Ricky Stanicky.
For those of you not familiar with Oedekerk’s work, he is the twisted mind that made Jim Carrey famous many years ago with Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and also brought us Kung Pow: Enter The Fist and was even a writer on Even Almighty – so he definitely knows how to make people laugh…especially if you appreciate fart jokes, which I certainly do.
It then seems appropriate that Jim Carrey will take the lead in a new Oedekerk comedy, even though James Franco was the first pick, as per earlier stories regarding Ricky Stanicky. While I am quite sure we can all expect a fair amount of slapstick, I am quite keen to see what Carrey does going back to his roots with the director that launched his career in quite a substantial way.
Here’s the synopsis from the always trusty Comingsoon:
The comedy centers on three male friends who have used an invented friend, Ricky Stanicky, for the past two decades as an excuse to explain their way out of sticky situations. When their spouses demand to meet Stanicky, they hire an actor to portray him.
That does sound like a role that Carrey was built for. Alrighty then!
