Mallrats

Mallrats will always be one of my defining films from my childhood. Finding a dusty old DVD version of the flick, booting it up and basking in the shenanigans of Brodie, Jay and Silent Bob while Ben Affleck scummed things up in the background all made for an enjoyable film. Especially if you were a comic book fan back in the day, before capes were cool. Also, would anyone like a chocolate-covered pretzel?

It’s been over 20 years since Kevin Smith directed that flick, way back in 1994. And with the director having recently got his movie-making groove back after Bruce Willis almost destroyed his love for producing flicks, a Mallrats sequel is finally on the way. And according to Smith, it’s all about the kids, as the next film will be called Mallbrats:

Mallbrats

It’s mall or nothing!.20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends, new jokes and a bloody battle with Stan Lee! This is for you, Jim. Wish you were here.

A younger generation of jaded kids hanging out in a shopping mall where crazy hijinks ensue? Count me in. The older generation of layabouts are also making a return in the sequel, which includes ason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Brian O’Halloran, Claire Forlani and Stan “The Man” Lee. Smith will of course, reprise his role as the mute heterosexual life partner to Jason Mewe’s chuckle-monkey Jay.

Smith is currently working on Yoga Hosers, before he starts production on Mallbrats. And then he’ll be assuring people that he’s open for business in Clerks 3.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!
