Let the games begin with the new trailer for POMPEII

Seemingly not content with being able to stare at Emilia Clarke on set every day, Kit “You Know Nothing, Jon Snow” Harrington decided to somehow convince Paul W.S. Anderson to make a film without Anderson’s wife, Milla Jovovich, in it.

Most famous for the pretty terrible but exciting Resident Evil films (and slightly less famous for the brilliantly terrifying Event Horizon), Paul W.S. Anderson has undertaken a sword and sandals-type disaster film as he is bringing the destruction of Pompeii by volcano to life with as much subtlety as a bull in a china shop but no matter, as it stars Game of Thrones survivor Kit Harrington and Emily “Sucker Punch” Browning, amongst others, and it does seem to be a typical Anderson romp with plenty of CGI action and – while we don’t see much evidence of it in the trailer – probably multiple slow motion action sequences.

As with Resident Evil, Paul W.S. Anderson does seem quite happy with his films stacking up the odds against his protagonists and Pompeii seems to be no different. I’m assuming we are going to see enough swords fights over lava to make Anakin Skywalker blush but at the end of the day, everyone has to admit that there’s something about the Resident Evil films that keep drawing in the audience…besides Milla Jovovich in that red dress.

Well, consider me interested as the films cast alone might be enough to put my ass in a cinema but I will undoubtedly not be expecting anything more than adrenaline-fueled popcorn-fodder. Pompeii opens on the 21 February, 2014. Grab a peek at the trailer! At the end of the day, I just hope the film does well enough for Kit Harrington to be able to afford some shirts.

  1. Everyone knows that Pompeii erupted because immortals went at it on holy ground which is not allowed. When the one chopped the others head off the volcano erupted.

And Event Horizon scares the shit our of me every time.
