A couple of months ago, the promo campaign for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to the blockbusting YA adaptation that totally wasn’t based on that violent Japanese movie, kicked off with a flurry. We had everything from posters to fashion shoots, prompting me to warn you guys that a flood of further material was sure to follow. And then nothing happened for months. Thanks for nothing, Katniss!

But as Comic-Con 2013 is around the corner, and the film is sure to have a have a huge presence there, we finally got some new material in the form of these 11 character posters for the former champions of the Games chosen for the Quarter Quell.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

If you haven’t read the books, and haven’t figured it out by now already, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), despite winning the 74th Hunger Games, get thrown right back into the arena again *SHOCK! HORROR!* for President Snow’s special 75th Hunger Games aka the Quarter Quell, where each District’s tributes are chosen from past champions. Hence the collection of young and old as displayed in the above character posters. This makes for some really interesting interactions and allegiances in the actual competition, and you also get to see old ladies in wetsuits.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be entering the arena on November 22, 2013.

  1. And Gordon Freeman, it would seem… I’m quite keen to see this, though I have to admit the first movie did not impress me much.
