The end of the year malaise has settled firmly over the country. No one feels like doing any work now that it’s December, and instead are thinking longingly of the upcoming break. At least, I know I am! No school, no work, just a week or two of glorious holiday. So that’s gotten me thinking about dream holiday destinations. And, as I can travel more through movies than I can in real life (because Kervyn never seems to get my emails asking for a raise), I’m looking to movies for my inspiration.
I know that The Beach inspired a mass exodus of holiday-makers to Thailand, and New Zealand is swarming with people dressed as hobbits thanks to Lord of The Rings and, well, The Hobbit. More recently, Moana has gotten me thinking about a South Pacific holiday on some remote island with coconuts and no cellphone reception.
Even locally, you can easily find the location of Black Mirror’s San Junipero (my absolute favourite episode) in Cape Town. Maiden’s Cove, to be specific, as our own Noelle found out a few weeks ago.
So if money were no object, which movie location would you most like to spend your vacation exploring? Or, if reality were no object either, let me know which fantasy location you’d travel to, if you could.
