With its release date just a few weeks away, it’s time to ask if YOU… CAN… SMEEEEEEEEELLLLULULHLHLLULULLL… WHAT HERCULES IS COOKING?! And you should, because as we now enter the final straight of Dwayne Johnsons’ new mythological action adventure, Lionsgate has set their marketing campaign to demigod-mode.
The studio has unleashed 30 new stills from the film, alongside a brand new TV spot that introduces film’s admittedly luring supporting cast (which includes Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, John Hurt and Joseph Fiennes) and a featurette in which Johnson and director Brett Ratner *spit* talk about the film’s big action sequences, in which we will several of said cast fighting with their weapon of choice in their own unique fighting style. While I’m not exactly a fan of Ratner’s journeyman directing (as you may have noticed), I will say that action here has a gritty, surprisingly not too flashy nature that I appreciate and which should be suitably entertaining in the full film.
Both man and myth, Hercules (Johnson) leads a band of mercenaries to help end a bloody civil war in the land of Thrace and return the rightful king to his throne. A tormented soul from birth, Hercules has the strength of a God but feels the suffering of a human.
Unimaginable villains will test the mythical power of Hercules in director Brett Ratner‘s gritty take on one of the most epic action heroes of the ages.
Hercules smashes into international cinemas this coming Friday, but only opens locally on August 8, 2014.
