As has been very well documented, Nicolas Cage is a very hit and miss kind of actor. But when he misses, it’s usually spectacular resulting in a whole new batch hilarious animated gifs to be found on the internet. And based on this first trailer for Tokarev, a new seemingly not-so-big budgeted revenge thriller that he is starring in with Danny Glover, this has the potential to get very gif-worthy.
When the Russian mob kidnaps the daughter of a reformed criminal, he rounds up his old crew and seeks his own brand of justice.
I hate to use your own lines against you, Danny Glover, but you’re getting, nay you’re already too old for this shit. Dodgy co-stars and production values aside, this looks just like the type of run of the mill, post-Taken kidnapping thriller you would find eTV playing on a Sunday night. Well, it would if it wasn’t for the fact that Cage seems to go into full-on flip out mode at some point, which might just make this one worth a look. Much like driving pass a car accident.
Tokarev is directed by Paco Cabezas (Neon Flesh) and stars Nicolas Cage, Danny Glover, Rachel Nichols, Peter Stormare, and Max Ryan, and is expected for release sometime in early 2014. Expect it be on Friday Action Night soon thereafter.
