OCP has some wild west armaments for sale in ROBOCOP

I’d kind of completely forgotten about Robocop over the last couple of months. WHile the world was preoccupied with other men in steel suits or of steel, that film has been toiling away in production. Since then, there’ve been a couple of changes on the Robocop website, a fictional branch of the ol’ OmniCorp conglomerate.

A few familiar faces were teased, as well as some iconic equipment. Well prepare for some more teasing, as you have the right to remain still and observe these new images from the upcoming film.

ED-209 is getting a bit more of the spotlight today, as OCP is clearly looking at the military applications if a robot that can chase a terrorist anywhere that doesn’t have any stairs. Alex Murphy’s familiar sidearm has also gotten a beefy upgrade, alongside a few other OCP products. Check ’em out below.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Robocop himself, Joel Kinnaman explained how he had enjoyed working on the film so far. Because promotion is the real hidden fourth prime directive:

It was a great experience. Half of my scenes were with Gary Oldman, which was a dream come true. The director didn’t want to make a superhero movie – we made an action tragedy. It’s going to be a sad and exciting story with quite a bit of drama….The movie will surprise people.

Action tragedy is an interesting twist, I’ll admit. While the original film was all about an American version of Jesus and the glamourisation of violence, this aspect could work well if it’s handled properly. I’m still certain that we don’t need a reboot of this franchise right now, but still, I want to give it a chance.

Robocop will be patrolling cinemas next year February, and also stars Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel and Jennifer Ehle. Jose Padilha directs.

Lulz, I doubt it. We’ve got some earlier news articles that show off one of his looks though. My guess, is that Murphy will be able to PG-13 some OCP bots at one point in the film. Hence that design.

Yeah, that’s one of the bots that Robocop is supposed to replace, if my memory of the leaked script is correct.

I’m still very undecided about this entire project but the cast is at least encouraging and Padilha has done some great work (a-la-Rodriguez) thus far. The problem is that I recently rewatched Robocop and it hasn’t really aged badly in terms of the performances even though a stop motion ED 209 has.
