Resident Evil is Rising in 2015

Paul W.S. Anderson

Love or hate it, but the next Resident Evil is coming.  This will make many people unhappy, as is evident from countless comments on articles revealing that we can expect the sixth movie in early 2015. Paul W.S. Anderson has revealed to an audience in China that he is starting to write the next movie, though that means it will not make its initial release date later this year. But the announcement of Resident Evil Rising didn’t surprise anyone – to date every Resident Evil film has turned a healthy profit, so why kill the golden goose?

Anderson answered a question at the Beijing International Film Festival, revealing he is starting work on the sequel. He also confirmed that Li Bingbing, who plays Ada Wong, has signed up and that it will be filmed in 3D. You can also bet that series protagonist and Anderson’s partner Milla Jovovich is also set to return.

As mentioned, this has caused much anguish among some Internet citizens, but they are clearly not stopping the movies from being huge sources of cash. To be fair, the previous iteration, Resident Evil Retribution, was lean, focused and fun – breaking away from the more annoying convolution that dragged the series down since the second movie. If Anderson keeps on that tangent – a focus on action and pace – Rising might be a very pleasant surprise. The chips are certainly stacked in its favour: at the end of Retribution we learn that the rogue computer Red Queen has taken total control and Alice, again endowed with her special powers, has to ally with old foes to beat the menace.

I’m happy. I’ve enjoyed all of these – they’re silly fun.

Could not agree more. It is a fun scifi action romp that you don’t have to invest a lot of intelligence into.

they kept me entertained as you say, silly fun, but really, another one? did the last one not perform badly enough for them?
Id be happier if they didnt pretend to be trying so hard to make it work.
