The first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may have answered some questions, but it also left fans with a whole heap of new ones. How did the Rebels get their hands on the plans for the first Death Star? Is there a planet filled with a species of Donnie Yen that wanders the galaxy kicking ass? Do Stormtroopers still bump their heads on low doorways? Lots of questions, that I demand answers to dammit!
Fortunately, some of them have been sort of answered, in a rumour-heavy manner. German website Jedi-Bibliotek managed to get their hands on some early pages for the upcoming tie-in book called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The Official Visual Story Guide, which shows off some of the new technology and characters of Rogue One.
Oh and also, spoilers. Consider yourselves warned.
iO9 noted that these images were not final, so things may change. But it looks rather solid to me so far. So lets delve into it. First up, we’ve got a list of some of the characters in Rogue One that includes:
- Diego Luna plays Rebel Alliance officer Captain Cassian Andor
- Jiang Wen is “freelance assassin” Baze
- Riz Ahmed straps up as Rebel soldier Bodhi
- Donnie Yen appears as Chirrut, a “spiritual warrior”
- Pao and Bistan play the roles of two “fierce warrior” alien characters, no actors have been attached to these roles yet
- Ben Mendelssohn’s Imperial commander with the super-swaggy white cloak has been identified as Director Krennic
- In the image above, you can also spot the repurposed battle droid that actor Alan Tudyk did motion capture for, that is named K-250
- Those stormtroopers in the black armour? They’re actually called Deathtroopers. METAL
Mads Mikkelsen’s Rogue One character has yet to be revealed, although the book points to him being Jyn Erso’s father. The big, big reveal however? Darth Vader will be present in the film according to the book, although you might have also caught that from the pic of Vader’s personal Star Destroyer Devastator from Star Wars: A New Hope. There’ll also be two new spaceships to break the bank once Disney starts pumping out toy versions of them. The Rebels have access to the U-Wing fighter:
While the Imperials have the TIE Striker fresh out of the Sienar Fleet Systems shipyards:
Sounds rad. Now tell me more about Director Krennic’s super-fly Imperial threads in Rogue One, yo.

Not sure where I heard it but I am fairly certain Darth Vader was going to be in the movie well before the second reveal even hit.
