Pacific Rim Uprising

When humanity is no more and our planet is a barren rock that alien explorers find, our species will be remembered for our greatest achievement: Giant-ass robots. Pacific Rim is hopefully a documentary of the future, a true tale of humanity setting aside its difference to introduce rampaging Kaiju to the business end of a size yo momma mechanised boot that happens to be attached to a skyscraper-sized Jaeger automaton.

If the first Pacific Rim introduced us to the best of the Mark III and IV Jaegers, then the upcoming Pacific Rim Uprising is taking the development of those might mechs in a new direction with the Mark VI Jaegers. Which is kind of handy, seeing as how all of those ultimate defense systems were wiped out in the first movie.

At San Diego Comic Con, the new Jaegers were indeed revealed alongside a new teaser for Pacific Rim Uprising. Check them out below:

Comingsoon has more details on the Mark VI’s, which thankfully also have wonderfully silly names again:

GIPSY AVENGER – Gipsy Avenger honours the heroic legacy of her namesake as the flagship leader of the Mark VI fleet. More than just a Jaeger, she is a symbol of hope to millions.

BRACER PHOENIX – A Mark V brute that can still run with the VI’s, Bracer Phoenix shoots from the chest, with a centrifugal vortex cannon that is as spectacular as it is deadly.

SABER ATHENA – The sleekest and most elegant Jaeger ever created, Saber Athena is the fastest in the fleet, wielding twin blades in hyper-acrobatic combat.

TITAN REDEEMER – Built for brute force and armed with a seismic morningstar, Titan Redeemer is the walking wrecking ball of the new fleet.

GUARDIAN BRAVO – Designed for combat at range, Guardian Bravo wields the Elec-16 Arc Whip: a proto-metallic successor to the chainsword, and brings a new sophistication to the chainsword’s whiplash move.

You’ve got a fleet of new Jaegers, and no more Kaiju to hunt. Or are they readying themselves for a return to our dimension? That’s the question that the official synopsis asks, confirming the ten-year time-skip that the sequel takes place in:

It’s been ten years since The Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes. When the Kaiju threat returns, we will be ready.

I am way, way too happy at all the news coming out of SDCC this year, but Pacific Rim Uprising might just take the cake for me. It’s out next year on February 23 and stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Lan Yingying, Qian Yongchen and Zhang Jin. Remember to empty the clip this time. EMPTY THE CLIP!

It IS GLaDOS. And it was in the first movie, too.
