So Jessica Chastain is NOT going to be in Iron Man 3 after all

Contrary to popular belief, Jessica Chastain will be not be starring in every single movie in Hollywood for the next 2 years. She came awfully close though, but unfortunately it would seem that those pesky universal rules of time and space has thrown the popular red-haired actress a curve ball.

It had been widely reported that Chastain had somehow managed to find time in her ridiculously busy schedule to match wits with Tony Stark in the next Iron Man film, but those reports may have been a bit premature as she revealed on her personal Facebook page.

“Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you.”

“Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out.”

Chastain, who had been up to play the role of Dr Maya Hansen – one of the architects of Extremis nanotechnology that will more than likely form the backbone of the Iron Man 3 story – spent her 2011 starring in Take Shelter, Coriolanus, The Tree of Life, The Help, Wilde Salome and Texas Killing Fields. 2012 sees her in Lawless, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Mama, Tar, Terence Malick’s current untitled project and Zero Dark Thirty.

Yeah, unless she secretly has a TARDIS, I have no idea how she was possibly going to squeeze in another film in that lineup, especially not a big budget spectacular like Iron Man 3 certainly would be.

There’s no word yet on whether Marvel will now go back to one of the girls –  Gemma Arterton, Diane Kruger and Isla Fishe – whom Chastain had beaten out for the role. Of the three of them, Diane Kruger would be my personal pick, just because she has the combination of not only being easy on the eyes, but also exudes a palpable stage presence. Something you’re going to need in spades, when you’re acting across from the walking attention black-hole that is Robert Downey Jr.
