Star Wars: The Force Awakens has yet to even be released, but you can bet your ass that Disney is ready to roll the camera on their brand new trilogy of money. I mean Star Wars. Yes, that. Episode VIII is now in the hands of Rian “Looper” Johnson, as Lucasfilm confirmed to EW today that Star Wars Episode VIII: Looking For Love In Alderaan Places will begin filming on the island Skellig Michael off the southern coast of Ireland later this month.

Star Wars Force Awakens (5)

At the rate that Disney and LucasFilm are going, it looks like all the talk about annual Star Wars movies wasn’t pure hot air. Episode VII is out in December, while the first anthology flick from director Gareth Edwards, Rogue One, hits cinemas next year.

For fans, it’s good news all around as the Episode VIII filming schedule has now revealed an early start. It’s most likely all down to talent availability and location perks, but it also means that the franchise in on track to deliver a core film on May 26, 2017.

The filming location is Ireland was also used in Episode VII, so perhaps their is a tangible link there, between the two films as well. Can you spell cliffhanger ending? I know it sounds silly to get worked up over Star Wars at such an early stage in the game, but dammit, I’m excited.

Star Wars always manages to evoke a certain kind of thrill in me, a sensation that heightens to ludicrous levels once I see the LucasFilm logo glimmer, see a familiar line of blue text and hear those trumpets Dolby blast my eardrums straight back into my rectum. Oh man, December cannot come soon enough.
