Another day, another movie expecting us to believe that Keanu Reeves knows martial arts. Specifically in the case of 47 Ronin, that he knows which end of the pointy samurai sword goes into the evil dragon lady.
We’ve had a number of trailers already for the fantasy-samurai epic, which co-stars The Wolverine‘s Hiroyuki Sanada, but this is Hollywood so of course we now have a new one. This latest “domestic trailer” at least gives us some glimpses at some new footage, all of which is looking pretty good thus far.
After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.
As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.
47 Ronin will be hitting screens on that most important of days in samurai mythology, Christmas 2013.
