We’ve spoken before about how much of an edge DC has on their main rival Marvel when it comes to animated flicks. Marvel is still finding a space that they’re comfortable with when it comes to creating such films, while DC is more than ok with using the best possible talent at Warner Bros Animation to create edgey, hard-hitting movies.
But don’t count Marvel out yet, because they’re plenty tenacious and the market is more than happy to see what they have to show. And for their next effort, it looks like the Black Widow is teaming up with the Punisher himself for a two-man war on crime.
After interfering with a top secret mission, The Punisher is taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Avenger Black Widow. At the orders of Director Nick Fury, Punisher and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop Leviathan, a global terrorist organization that plans to sell stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. technology to the highest bidder. Now, the vigilante and spy must work together to prevent this technology from falling into the wrong hands. The fate of the world, and of the Avengers, hangs in the balance.
There’s not much on show here, but of you’re familiar with the Iron Man and Wolverine anime series that debuted a while back, then you’ll be in for a treat with the animation. Mad House is one of the best in the business today, and Marvel is clearly aiming for a product that at least looks good on the outside. Will the interior match? Who knows, but what is known is that Jennifer Carpenter and Brian Bloom are voicing the two lead characters. The film is out on Blu-Ray and DVD March 25.
