Ice Cube and the crew are back and this time they’re introducing a couple of new faces to round off the trilogy for the Barbershop franchise. The first movie was released in 2002 and revolved around social life in a barbershop on the South Side of Chicago, providing the platform to deliver some good laughs as well as a few life lessons. The first installment also proved to be a star-making vehicle for acting newcomers Eve and Michael Ealy.
The story for the latest installment picks up more than 10 years from the second movie. Since then there have been a few changes made to the shop with the biggest of these being the fact that the shop is now sharing a space with a salon. Enter the usual antics and classic Barbershop jokes, delivered brilliantly by the ever funny Cedric The Entertainer until trouble starts brewing and Ice Cube’s Calvin and friends once again need to come together to save the shop and the community.
Taking on the title role of Calvin, Cube is also producing, alongside Matt Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr, and has brought in Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man, The Best Man Holiday) to direct the urban comedy. With the exclusion of Ealy and Queen Latifah, who we saw in Barbershop 2 the original crew is back and this time around they are joined by Tyga and Nicki Minaj.
Rounding off the talented cast is Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Eve, J.B. Smoove, Lamorne Morris, Sean Patrick Thomas, Deon Cole, Common, Margot Bingham, Michael Rainey Jr. and Troy Garity.
