“This is a whole new thing!” Watch the new trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level

As I’ve mentioned several times before, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was easily the biggest cinematic surprise of 2017. The sequel/reboot to the much-beloved 1997 Robin Williams adventure flick had no right to be anywhere as good as it was, but thanks to hellishly entertaining turns from its cast of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, and director Jake Kasdan keeping a hilariously irreverent streak throughout, it blew away all expectations. And earned a small fortune at the box office.

So, of course, we’re getting a sequel, but can lightning strike twice? Amazingly, thus far the previews for Jumanji: The Next Level have suggested that to actually be the case, and a new final trailer that dropped last night is not horsing around either. Well, it is actually horsing around. Quite literally as you’ll see below.

Besides for the equine antics, we now also have Danny DeVito and Danny Glover joining the mix, with Johnson and Hart having to impersonations of them in the game world of Jumanji. We also get to see the briefest of glimpses of franchise newcomer Awkafina, but we still don’t know who she’s playing or how the story ties to her. A story that will see our intrepid band facing all kinds of new environments and challenges.

In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.

Jumanji: The Next Level also stars Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, Morgan Turner, Awkwafina, and Rhys Darby. Kasdan is once again behind the camera and he’s also co-written the script with Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg. The film is scheduled for release on 13 December 2019.
