This is the Dumbest iPhone Accessory Ever.

Hasbro, makers of genuinely awesome things like the board game Monopoly has announced that it’ll be releasing an add-on to the iPhone and iPod touch that’ll bring stereoscopic 3D to the mobile devices.

As you can see in the picture above, it resembles a view-master or that stupid solid eye attachment for the PSP that accompanied Metal Gear AC!D 2 back in 2006. Welcome Hasbro’s My3D.

My3D will add an extra dimension to  "gaming, virtual travel experiences and entertainment content." They’ve apparently struck a deal with Dreamworks to bring the studio’s 3D content to the diminutive screen. Hasbro’s My3D will also source content from Discovery, Sony and Imax.

"The idea of being able to be somewhere in Los Angeles, in this 360-degree environment, to be in the shark tank, to be able to swim with the fish and chase after the fish. These are really breakthrough immersive experiences," said Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro. “The idea of holding up my iPhone to my face via proxy of a stupid plastic add-on will make me look and feel like a giant loser,” said Geoffrey Tim. is that going to be suitable for gaming? It obscures the entire screen – and with the iPhone not having too many options when it comes to input, the only 3D games would be ones that rely on the accelerometer and gyroscope. They could, I suppose utilise some sort of secondary input peripheral…but then you’d pretty much have a next-generation virtual boy.

Dumb. But Apple zealots are likely to hail this as the death of Nintendo’s 3DS.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
