Tom Hardy over the last few years has shown that he is not afraid to take on some crazy and villainous roles that border almost on the ridiculous at times and it’s certainly setting him apart as an actor. This role for an upcoming 8 part TV series title Taboo however is certainly another opportunity for him to take on a crazy character who is not afraid to be the bad guy.

We don’t know an awful lot about the plot at the moment, though it is apparently about some guy from Africa coming back to reclaim his dad’s shipping empire and keep it from a bunch of other backstabbing guys. It doesn’t exactly sound riveting, but this trailer certainly does seem interesting and perhaps show how the action in this show could be quite brutal.

What is incredible is how this TV series, which Tom Hardy created with Ridley Scott looks like a full blown movie with its cast and action set pieces and just shows how TV shows of today have grown to incorporate massive budgets that we used to only expect from the film industry. I think it’s great for TV and hopefully this show is a memorable one.

The miniseries was written by Steven Knight (Burnt, Seventh Son) and is directed by Kristoffer Nyholm. It is also set to star Michael Kelly, Jonathan Pryce, Oona Chaplin and David Hayman in major roles.

I for one, am looking forward to seeing Tom Hardy exact all amounts of revenge on these guys just for the fact that they refer to Africa as a place of savages. They deserve to be punished for that comment alone.
