There was a bit of a surprise this week, as a new Avengers: Age Of Ultron trailer Hulk-smashed its way onto the net. While it recycled plenty of previously seen footage, it also contained plenty of new footage, that was all spoiler-free. Naturally, we decided to analyse every single frame of the new trailer. Especially the frames starring our favourite Avengers in skintight catsuits.
Clearly, New York was just the beginning of the latest series of Superhero Survivor. While immunity may be up for grabs, so are various other cities as the film trailer points to at least two cities getting caught up in the massive fallout between the Avengers and various other factions.
But hey, at least evacuation pods are looking up to the job.
Clearly, Captain America has been busy as of late. Just check out his helmet, a battered and weathered piece of kit which has seen better days.
How long can even a super-soldier last against numerous world-ending threats then? With Starks voice-over line that the world needs “something more powerful than any of us,” Cap happens to be caught in a moral quandry of policing the world and protecting it with any and all tools available.
Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, seen sticking to the shadows here as the action heats up, possibly mulling over the idea of bringing pointed sticks to battle.
“Maybe I should start using actual guns with my eyes of the hawk…hawk…hawk.”
“Everyone creates the thing they dread,” Ultron says in the next voice-over as Stark gazes on an entire armory of peace-keeping solutions.
Speaking of dread, here’s another early look at Ultron Mark I, powered by Stark energy and nightmare fuel. Just how did this model get so roughed up?
I still love this first shot of Ultron coming to life, as he shuffles into the Avengers HQ and berates them. It’s disturbing, creepy and gets taken to the next level very quickly.
Stark may be a genius, but Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner is no science slouch either, as the film hints that he and Stark have been working on Ultron ever since The Avengers wrapped up.
And here we have STark, realising that he may have just made a massive mistake. A mistake that may have just shuffled into view of all his super-powered pals, declared war on humanity and leaked coolant all over the new imported rug.
“In the flesh”. It’s funny because he’s genocidal and happens to have already ceased control of all of Stark’s robotic drones already.
And that’s how Michael Bays mate.
Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are looking like they need to make a choice right here. Hopefully it’s to shoot a scene where they rhyme the word “mutant” with another word that won’t get them sued by 20th Century Fox.
So how has Banner been handling his rage as of late? With Fury showing up to mention winning and losing, having a giant green steroid rage monster on your side may not always be the best asset available.
“Trouble always comes ’round”, as Nick Fury looks ready to return to the real world after having faked his own death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Kervyn already posted a nice theory on this particular shot, suggesting that we may be getting our first glimpse at Wakanda, and specifically, a Black Panther here. With the identity of the Black Panther being passed down throughout the royal family of Wakanda, it’s a role that can be filled by more than one person at a time, provided that they happen to be worthy enough to don the mantle of the Panther.
And survive Andy Serkis, who happens to be the spitting image of Black Panther foe Ulysses Klaw. With the indestructible metal Vibranium being a key part of the film, expect to see Klaw and the Panthers play a significant role in the movie.
Tony, you got some ‘splainin’ to do!
Thor may have learnt humility in his first film, but that doesn’t stop him from being arrogant at times, as he chides Stark for thinking too big.
“Accidents to be reported at once to duty officer,” reads the steel door that Stark happens to find himself getting intimate with, via Ultron’s lasers.
And now for some incredible make-up, as a much younger Black Widow reflects that “We have no place in the world”.
In Captain America: Winter Soldier, it was hinted at that the world may get to know the real Black Widow. And that’s an origin story that I’m dying to see unfold in Age Of Ultron.
And cue the creepy surgery tools.
Man, I am loving the new paint job on the Mark 48 armour. Hopefully, it’s as versatile in Avengers as it was in Iron Man 3.
SAPS vs the Hulk. Trust me, this is not going to end well but after receiving a speeding ticket on the way to Cape Town, I am going to enjoy this scene as much as possible.
Hulk beats truck. Every single time. We’ve been seeing plenty of the Hulks rampage in downtown Jozi, but what happens to have triggered this anger management issue, especially since ol’ Jade Jaws was working side by side with his team in the climatic battle of the first film? Did he finally have his patience tested to the limit with car guards, or did somebody happen to play Leon Schuster music from their shop? Who knows at this point.
Whatever Black Widow is up to, she’s bringing a ton of firepower with her.
Man, I hope your medical aid is paid up Cap.
Because right now, the World War 2 legend is getting his ass handed to him by an Ultron drone.
I don’t know what’s happening in this specific scene, but it looks like a big moment in the film as the Hulk finds himself calmed down by the Black Widow.
“I’m gonna tear you apart,” says Ultron. Presumably, by looking incredibly awesome and like a credible threat because…
…He happens to have finger death-lasers built into his ultimate form. Finger. Death-lasers.
Look closely at this scene, and you’ll notice that Thor happens to be having the lightning drawn out of is body by the lady behind him. Look at her fingers, and you’ll notice that they’re positioned in a spell-casting position similar to how Doctor Strange weaves his own spells. If it is indeed a nod to the Upcoming Doctor Strange movie, then that’s one hell of an Easter egg. Although the smart money is on us getting our first look at another Thor enemy who happens to favour the colour green, the Enchantress.
Why is Thor so pissed off with Tony? And is Thor gonna have to choke a Stark?
I’ve been waiting for years to see the Hulkbuster suit. So far, it doesn’t disappoint.
you know things are getting serious when Thor ditches the arm amrour and Cap leaves his helmet behind.
2012’s Hulk looked fantastic. It had plenty of Mark Ruffalo’s facial features, but the digital artists have outdone themselves once again in Age of Ultron. Hats off to them for giving a CGI effect plenty of emotion and heft.
And making the green Goliath that much scarier.
Man, Stark is not happy with Banner as his heads-up display is almost as intense as his facial expression.
Since the scene takes place in Jozi, I’m referring to the Hulkbuster armour as the Iron Boet suit from now on.
Man, look at those eyes. The CGI is unreal here.
It’s pretty much a slobberknocker from this point on, as the Hulk and Iron Boet give as good as they receive. Although I am digging how the Hulk happens to be craftier, using sneak attacks and traffic lights to his advantage.
The children of Iron Man, flying low and right into a Kenny Loggins Danger Zone musical track. Love how mobile these drones are so far.
In the comics, Scarlet Witch had some sort of weird Chaos Hex mutant power, which was later rejiggered to be something far more simple. Such as the power to alter reality. Which was also far more frightening, due to the fact that all this power was in the hands of a lady who was having mental breakdowns at the time. Will the film see her boast such incredible power? I certainly hope so.
And that’s all she wrote! Avengers: Age of Ultron is out in May.

“using sneak attacks and traffic lights to his advantage.”
Hey atleast the traffic lights in JHB are used for something other than flashing red disco lights O_o

That chick from wakanda looks like *spoiler alert i guess” one of the Dora Milaje, or Black Panther bodyguards… perhaps it’s also his sister but one can see the gold decorations and such on her body and her bald head specifically.
Would be cool if there was a Black Panther in this, could also be for example T’Challa’s father etc

I never really liked the design of Ultron from the comics. It always looked a bit goofy to me and I was worried about how they would translate it to screen.
It’s great that they’ve managed a compromise between improving the design and still retaining it’s main elements.
Ultron looks awesome. In fact, it looks downright bloody terrifying. That close-up at the end of the first trailer was scary as hell
