Just last week Vin Diesel found his director in F. Gary Gray for the hit franchise The Fast and the Furious –  now Diesel has found his guy to direct his return to the big screen as Xander Cage in XXX 3 in D.J. Caruso.

You will know Caruso from movies like Eagle Eye, Disturbia and I Am Number Four, all of which didn’t received mixed reactions from movie fans but still managed to bring in decent profits. Diesel has recently stated on his Instagram account that filming for XXX 3 will begin this December in the Philippines and here is what he has to say about working with D.J Caruso in an interview with io9.

I’m excited as hell about xXx. D.J. Caruso is directing it, which is exciting. The big question now is which will race to production first now that F. Gary Gray is on [Furious 8]?

Based on that it would seem that their is a question mark on which movie to finish first. With the huge success and popularity of Furious 7 and the ridiculous amount of money that movie has earned, the studio might be putting pressure to get Furious 8 done first.

That would make sense and as bankable a star that Vin Diesel is I think he should take his time with the XXX project so we can clear our minds of the mess that was the Diesel-less XXX: State of the Union! The action-man is still passionate about the sequel and looks excited to return as the adrenaline junkie turned rugged secret agent and here is what he had to say about the project.

xXx is one of those films you do when you need to have a little fun. When the weight and pressures of all the other things have gone so far that you need to have a character that you can just have fun and more comment on life and comment on the outcome than being in it like Dom Torretto. Dom is very much the center of the storm, Xander is more the guide to something else and you’re just with him.

So Vin wants to have some fun, maybe break away from the reminder of losing his friend Paul Walker while on set with the Furious franchise. The first XXX was definitely a lot of fun and its a character that can bring a lot to a story, playing on the elements that you have the bad guy that is the hero of the movie, with an arsenal of tough guy one liners.

Caruso is a safe choice to take over the directors chair and with Diesel returning as Cage I have no doubt there will be plenty of action to enjoy.
