Despite Pierce Brosnan’s November Man not exactly shooting up the box office, the “old actor kicking ass” genre still has lots of life in it, if The Equalizer is to be believed. Reteaming Denzel Washington with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, the feature film remake of the classic TV series (which I, for the life of me, really cannot recall) has been received so well during test screenings, months before it was even set to be released, that a bunch of sequels have already been given the thumbs up by Sony. And checking out this new trailer, you can kind of see why.

Washington can be a badass son of a gun, but that’s usually when he actually has one. A gun, that is. But in The Equalizer, Fuqua has him getting his hands dirty, courtesy of the blood of  rooms full of unfortunate troublemakers who looked at Washington’s friends the wrong way. This new trailer gives us plenty of that action – most of which we’ve seen before – but also a whole lot of new footage showing us more of the folks he goes up against and the many ways he hurts them. It even has a taste of Eminem and Sia’s new single “Guts Over Fear”, which will feature on the soundtrack.

In “The Equalizer,” Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by – he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

The Equalizer also stars Martin Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo. It is scheduled for release in 16 seconds. Or September 26, 2014. One of those two.
