Cops may not be too popular these days, but at least there’s one gang of highway patrol misfits that you can always count on. And that’s the Super Troopers. Back in 2001, comedy group Broken Lizard unleashed the anti-Police Academy of movies, a comedy starring a group of lawmen with no regard for due process unless it helped them have a good time.
It’s a cult classic, and well worth checking out. And it’s also the kind of movie that fans have been begging to see sequelised. And it’s finally happening! Sort of.
While Broken Lizard is keen to get back into the moustaches and Ray-Bans of their Highway Patrol characters, they’re going to need some scratch to make that dream a reality. Right now, they need to raise $2 million via crowdfunding, after which the movie will be distributed by 20th Century Fox. And unlike other crowdfunding initiatives, the Broken Lizard troupe (Jay Chandrasekhar,Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske) actually have some decent rewards up for grabs.
Pay anywhere from $10 and up, and you’ll get behind the scenes access and a download of the movie itself. Go even further with the donations, and you can grab clothing, merch and a fake moustache. Go all in at $25 000, and the gang will even show up as best men (or bridesmaids) at your wedding.
The campaign is already raising plenty of cash. Hopefully if this one takes off, we’ll also finally get a sequel to Beerfest.
