Best of Gamescom nominees announced

GC2015

Gamescom kicks off this week, and I’m looking rather forward to it. I’ve always preferred the European game show to the big media extravaganza that is E3. There’s less pomp and ceremony, and more of a focus on actual games. Plus, there’s great beer to drink, and it’s just a generally more chilled event. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t great big reveals, announcements or first looks at brand new games.

This may take some of the excitement out of it all. Gamescom’s organisers have already published the list of nominees for Gamescoms awards, which are a reflection of the best games on show. The show has yet to actually start (kicking off this Wednesday), but here’re the nominees anyway:

  • Star Wars Battlefront
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

The winners will be chosen by an expert panel of judges. As we’ve told you before, entrants in to these particular awards need to pay a nominal fee, so the whole thing is a little bit iffy – and seems to serve as a marketing more than anything else.

Dude… gameplay… MS don’t have a history of showing something as gameplay when it isn’t. You’re thinking of the other company… go back and look at the first e3 with PS3, they showed a lot of “gameplay”.

I think that might have to do with the one being a gameplay video, and the other being a still image?

          • DarthZA

            August 3, 2015 at 13:19

ok.. just found what you’re referring to. That isn’t gameplay, but a trailer. The trailer doesn’t even say it is game play, nor does it imply that it is.

The point im trying to make is the actual gameplay looks nothing like the clip of the still I posted.

Quatum break kinda looks like Max Payne 2.0 IMO.

Sadly that is the truth! One would think in this day and age of Internet and whatnots that Word of Mouth can and should kill a crappy game in it’s tracks. But no. Them flashy marketing is all we see.
I promise you, I was so bad at this, if a girl on the cover of a game had Boobs I bought it. Then I played Two Worlds. Or attempted to.
Then it went all nope from there on out. Who am I kidding?

Clearly these nominations are what’s left of the E3 spillout? Otherwise, Gamescom is a complete sham…It’s ridiculous man, second of all, what we’ve seen so far are “demos” (pre rendered videos of what might just happen to be let downs on all fronts)…And The Division? Isn’t that scheduled for release somewhere in 2048?

It is. Luckily we have quite a few indie guys showing up now with some really great ideas. Pity they don’t get a spot at E3.

Isn’t that when you play with a Fender knockoff?

Like a Starfire? Man, I remember those. They looked the business but the frets were all messed-up.

Shoh!! Did you also play on one!? I remember cutting my finger open on one of those, by doing a slide…

Haha. Friend of mine had one. I had an Aria, then got a Squier once I could afford something that at least had the name Fender written on it somewhere. 😉
            Squiers do play lekker though.

Aah, the memories, I’ve had a fair share of cheap guitars, mostly basses, from a Ritmuller to a santa Fe, to a fender Jazz bass, I eventually bought a Warwick Thumb… The simplist way I can put it is amazing… My electric collection has dwindled to an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, but at this stage, it’s all I need, a Music Man Luke would look nice though…

Epiphones are great. Especially that Les Paul Custom.
That’s excellent man. I’ve also had a few cheap guitars throughout the years.
I still have my first Squier though, still enjoy playing on it. Added a Jackson V and an Ibanez 7 string. I don’t need any more, but man I’d love me a Telecaster. 😉

Oooh…sweet guitar goodness…. I was at a Dan Patlansky Guitar weekend a while ago and the gave away a Squier Tele hollow body with (If I remember correctly) Texas special pickups….It’s one thing seeing the guitar, but when Dan picked it up, everyone wanted one… I love those Teles…. They are simply amazing, if set up correctly though…

It’s the one guitar I’ve always wanted, but to fork out around 20k for an American Tele now is way out of my reach at the moment. The fact that my skill isn’t anywhere near what it used to be (after a motorcycle accident my left hand had to be rehabilitated, so I had to learn from scratch), also doesn’t help in justifying it.

            August 3, 2015 at 12:30

I agree in full! When it comes to electric guitar I have a few basic skills (my pinched harmonics usually sound like a cat being strangled in the back of a boat) but a 20k money dump is simply too much… Accidents are always a mess, I had a friend who played lead who also had a major injury on his right hand though, what saddened me was that I could see him getting frustrated while playing, I’m really sorry to hear that though man, but you sound as if you enjoy playing and I always say, speed doesn’t come into play with a solid riff, passion does… If you can make music, in any form, you’re good!

That whole “Pay-for-award” methodology sours things….

Seems like a very Anti-Indies approach, can small developers afford said “Nominal” fee?
