Gran Turismo Sport’s beta has been binned

As you already know, Gran Turismo Sport is coming to a PlayStation 4 near you in the middle of November this year. From the sounds of things, while it doesn’t try to innovate too much, it absolutely nails the thrill of driving.

You may have been waiting for a bit of beta hands on for the game, which was supposed to be coming in October this year. Speaking to Videogamer though, Gran Turismo maker Polyphony Digital has said that the beta for the upcoming racer has been red flagged.

“That’s something that I’m very, very sorry about,” GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi told Videogamer on the now-cancelled beta.

He says that putting out a decent beta takes just as much work as making and releasing a full game, so the beta was cancelled to ensure a 2016 launch for GT Sport.

“Just because it’s beta we can’t just throw it out there. It’s required that in order to do an open beta, we have to create a proper master for it, and considering the release timing that we announced, we decided that we just don’t have enough time to do two gold masters for the game. By omitting that it saves us about three months of time.”

Funny though, Polyphony has had no problem in releasing full, paid-for betas before. Remember Gran Turismo 5 Prologue? Joking aside, I’m actually quite keen on GT Sport. I don’t really like racing games all that much, but the work that goes in to recreating the cars and the cities in those games always tickles me.

I agree with their reasoning… rather release a working complete game, than have a beta that takes away from that development.

Bethesda games rarerly have betas to disasterous and funny effect. Unless they have a QA dept that is way on top of things like Blizzard you can bet that the game is going to be buggy as hell cause taking away 3 months dev time is equal to cutting corners.

But what if the development team does not pick up on the faults before release…. Will you be happy with a huge update waiting on you or perhaps even a semi broken game.

I’m not going to play this… broken or brilliant… but I remember a time when developers actually hired people to test their games, so they could actually do that.

Look at the Overwatch Beta. It ran like a finished product. Blizzard has a massive QA dept. Their only fault is they spend way too little on their auth servers.

LOL! Tell me about it… serious issues on those servers over the weekend.

They use the same auth servers for ALL their games. Big new game launch? Don’t expect to play WoW,SC,HS,Diablo or HotS cause you won’t get to log in.

            Sad, but very very true.

That be true. Saw a documentary on how developers hired people in the 90’s to test their games before release. They finish the game, let the testers play it, get their input on what may needs to change and what is totally broken, fix it and then release it to the people.

That is why games back in the day took some time to release. None of this annual BS.

Yep. Had a friend in the US that was a part time game tester. He’d get sent a disc with a % of the game on it, he’d play it, write a report and send it back to the dev. He’d have the full game the day before release as payment for testing it.

Thanks to those lovely environments I bet the frame rate takes a knock.

If I had to choose between a graphically rich game at 30fps or a 60fps Project Cars then its Project Cars.

Please be 60fps. All driving games need to be 60fps.

All Xbox and PS versions. As for Neo. You having a laugh? Nintendo tech is usually 15 years behind the rest of the world. I have seen Texus Instruments calculators with more CPU power than a Wii U.

        60fps is not cinematic.

So if 30fps is cinematic then the game is a movie not a game anymore? XD
