3 More Call of Duty Games in Next 2 Years

Let it never be said that Activision are one to milk their popular franchises. Except that Activision really are milking their popular franchises. We’ve seen it most notably with Guitar Hero – a series so popular it spawned far too many versions leading to general public disinterest.

Much the same happened with Tony Hawk – and to a lesser degree, Call of Duty. We’ve traditionally seen only one release – by alternating developers – in the franchise per year. That’s set to change.

With Sledgehammer Games confirmed to be the 3rd Call of Duty developer, Activision are looking at brining you more Call of Duty.

COD Blogger has said – on a Bobby Kotick Hate page on Facebook of all places :

“As for COD, they’ve confirmed three games in the next two years. Seeing as how there is a pattern of one new COD game every year, this is one new COD game from one new developer, and in a different genre from the core games we’ve seen.”

The COD game from Sledgehammer is said to be an Action Adventure instead of a straight up FPS. According to Activision the new game will broaden the series’ audience, so perhaps we’re looking at something perhaps inspired by Uncharted 2. Done well, I’d probably be more interested in that than the main annual FPS.

Treyarch will be handling this year’s main entry, with Infinity Ward doing 2011’s title -f they still exist by then, that is.
