343 Industries remaking Halo : Combat Evolved?

combatEvolved

You know the studio Microsoft set up to continue the Halo legacy? The one that said they’re planning to “breathe a fresh vision” in to the series? According to an industry insider their first Halo release may do just the opposite.

The studio is apparently hard at work on a remake to the game that launched a thousand console FPS’,  the original Halo : Combat Evolved.

Said mysterious insider says the game could run on the Halo Reach engine and will be available before the fully-fledged Halo 3 sequel. If that’s true, it could even be released to commemorate the original game’s 10th anniversary, which is in November next year.

I don’t know about you, but I think a 10 year old game – one from the previous generation – doesn’t really need a full-blown remake. I don’t really see the point, to be honest; Halo Reach is pretty damned spectacular and will keep fans pretty happy until a proper Halo sequel comes along.

If it’s happening at all, I think they should follow in Sony’s footsteps and release a budget-priced upscaled to HD version – not unlike the God of War, Team Ico and Sly Cooper Collections available on PS3.

What do you think? Do you want a remade Halo?

Remake it , but trim the flood levels down (rework them) and add more sense in the coop side of things.

I feel like it’s too early to make a remake. it’s just Microsoft trying to milk out the franchise as usual. make Halo 4 damnit

not sure if you noticed but Reach has campaign matchmaking. you would almost have toexpect all the new Halo features would be included liek forge, theater, online support, 4 player co-op. you know, the goods.

Meh…. I would much rather see either a Halo 3 sequel and finish the damn series, or an XBLA release of the Halo 2 multiplayer.

While this is an obvious ploy to milk the Halo cash cow, I’m still all for it. Halo CE is the best of the series, and I know I speak for alot of devote fans when I say an HD remake utilizing modern tech is very welcome.

This is poor reposting, a lot of people dis-like Reach. A Halo CE remake with MM support ? This is what real Halo fans have always wanted.

NO. Just NO. Leave the classic Halo alone. You will just mess it up. Leave it to Bungie to remake it if it has to be remade. Go make Halo 4. I do not want to see the classic Halo get screwed up at all. Remaking legendary games is a very touchy area. Because if you don’t pay careful attention, you can easily screw it up. trying to get the original cast to revoice can be hard.. and if you use a different voice, you’ll ruin the game. Leave Halo CE alone.

Okay first of all justno if u obviously think bungie would do a better job remaking this game you are naive. Bungie would take this game down a downhill spiral. Halo Reach was just an excuse to deliberatly try to attract call of duty fans to the franchise. In addition, it incorporated naive concepts and tried to make the game easy for everyone to play. What fun is an online multi-player game without competition. Not only did they almost eliminate this factor but they removed some of the inventions that made halo what it is. For example they got rid of the Br which immediately ruined halo to me. Not only this but bloom on all weapons listen if i want to play call of duty i will play call of duty not halo. Furthermore i disagree with the approach of giving everyone load-outs and the fact that everyone now has control of camo and overshield. Lastly sprint was yet another mistake, they should have kept halo the way it was instead of slowing down the speed in which your player moved.Aside from this Combat Evolved was a tremendous game and a strictly skill based game, and so was halo 2 both of those games are what made halo the franchise it is today.

I love how people say Microsoft is milking the franchise. No, Nintendo milks franchises. Anyone remember the Zelda and Mario cartoons? Or Mario Bros cereal, or the Mario Bros movie [shudders], or how about the literally dozens of Mario and Zelda games?

    Halo on the other hand:

    Halo Wars
    Halo 1
    Halo 2
    Halo 3
    Halo 3 ODST
    Halo Reach

+ Some books, a comic, and an animated film. These tie-ins are no more than what a game like Dead Space, or Mass Effect has.

Until I see Master Chief Flakes, I say no harm, no foul. 😆

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with remaking a game, especially since it is considered to be the best out of the series and is almost a decade old (over a decade if you count production time).

As long as they add in features like player customization, matchmaking, matchmaking co-op, and maybe forge and theater if possible, then this will be an excellent $60 value. I will say that without those extras they better not try and charge more than $30!

Honestly, I’d be happy just to have the Xbox 1 version in wide screen. Co-op would be nice, but I don’t think I’d play it all over again, yet I’d still buy it for some reason.

I can’t imagine a Halo game NOT developed by Bungie. Would be interesting to see what the new guys do with Bungie’s baby.

Yes please! Remake this with the same gameplay. Same movement speed, same jump height, same shot damage, same weapons, etc. etc. Please do not change the gameplay at all!!! However, add online multiplayer and update graphics. Use hitscan and keep same multiplayer maps along with some new ones and we have an excellent remake.

Patrick is totally correct in every single way ^

do not remake Halo CE, but bring us a Halo that has the core of what a Halo game is about. None of this COD/Halo b.s.

    bloom is not halo
    AA is not Halo
    melee damage is not halo
    fall damage is not halo
    recoil is not halo
1 foot jumping is not halo

BRING BACK BR! It was the primary weapon for competitive gameplay

being a halo fan since the begining i have enjoyed the series through and through.
If 343 industries does remake the original Halo combat evolved they must make sure to keep it the way it was, same level layouts, same weapons, same type of enemies (not including brutes, drones, those halo reach jackels), also on a remake they’ve got to not include the ability to hijack as halo ce never needed that. Also i wouldn’t want to see those annoying suit abilities as they would easily ruin halo ce.

All in all i would support a halo combat evolved remake and i would also support a halo 2 remake if it ever gets considered.

armor abilities are fine so is highjacking and im even okay with dmr instead of br, dmr is a well balanced weapon with a purpose, bring back the covie sniper with the awesome zoom throw out the plasma launcher, we got plasma grenades so whats the use, also keep in mind your on thin ice over sacred ground. also i know level design must change with a full blown remake but please dont make us rely on a team in campaign, im so much happier with mc being the one man army, and idc how smart nobles ai was i dont need an ivincible bot helping me, just let the player be the tough one again

im also in agreement with zerg humper, its not being milked in my opinion until the story stops being cohesive, it was too much when mario had a water gun and a cereal, give any spartan a paintball gun in any game the doesnt take itself seriously and we will form a mob 343
