40 almost impressive minutes of Fuse gameplay footage

Insomniac Games live streamed some Fuse gameplay and I have to say it was really almost impressive, but not quite. The game looks like it’s been designed well but presents just about nothing new. The reason for my complete lack of  enthusiasm may just be that we don’t see enough innovation and originality in games; this however doesn’t necessarily make it a bad game.

The archived footage is still available on TwitchTV with commentary from the gameplay programmer and designer of Fuse.

In the gameplay footage you’ll see a lot of similarities to games you’ve already played. For example the silent take downs we’ve seen recently in Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider and Crysis 3. The HUD is something similar to Dead Space and one of the soldiers in the team has an invisibility cloak that’s also been seen and wait for it, there’s also a crossbow in the mix.

The fact that the game shows no real innovation and originality so far definitely takes away from any hype created around it, but I think if you’re a shooter junkie you’ll enjoy the game purely for that element, the shooting. With different combos of weapons used for kills, you’ll find yourself getting different amounts of XP making a tiny bit more interesting. The game will also present players with a skill tree, which has also become rather over used in games lately, but I guess we won’t see too many games without them in the future.

Fuse is due to release next month for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

But what else can be done in shooters that hasn’t already been done? Has it not YET hit it’s ceiling for ideas? And the end of its life cycle???? I’m really not a fan of FPS games, and I know I am in the small minority on this but really: How many guys can you want to kill in the same way????

And much like Bioware and Bethesda, all it really takes is one or two really poorly-crafted but dismally overrated games and the bile flows like a scorned lover…

This game is already shaping up to be a favourite of mine, the amount of hate it gets for the sins of other FPS games (while those very same FPS games are lauded as the second coming) is exactly what brings out my power armour and defensive stance.

I can already see it, negative reviews on day one (because when the gaming media wants to behave like sheep they go full-sheep), then a few weeks later, the community reviews will come out saying that it’s actually a pretty cool game and probably one of Insomniac’s best, and then Jim Lenoir will once again stand victorious, as the vanguard of good gaming and good games. AMANDLA!

there you go with your VANGUARD again. (wonders if Jim picked that class in Mass Effect)

Hahaha! I suppose I am CRAVING MOAR story. If this can deliver, I’ll buy it. However, I doubt it will be another Bioshock!

Probably not, but I just don’t like a game being crucified before it even gets a chance to show what its got. It might suck COD eggs, or like COD suck monkey ass, but every game needs to at least be given the benefit of the doubt.

If it doesn’t deliver, throw it to the LIONS of LENOIR!! (Shutup, I’ve been re-reading Game of Thrones)

The only thing that should matter is that the game should be fun.

You know what would be almost impressive? If Disney said: “hahaha, we troll you, Lucasarts is still alive and kicking and Jedi Knight 4 is releasing and 1313 and Leia slavegirl simulator and….

I am going to be honest here.

I really dislike it when companies release such long gameplay videos.
    a) I don’t have the time for it
    b) It takes away the impact of the game on a person once you play it because heck, you’ve seen 40 minutes of it already. In fact, you are going to be stuck with 40 minutes of “I know what’s coming next” somewhere in the game. That kind of defeats the purpose and reduces the “woah effect”

I know that I can choose not to watch them. I just wonder if there are others that feel the same as I do about such long gameplay vids?

I’m all for innovation but if a game is well made, then why not? Does EVERYTHING have to be innovative?

But this game does look fun to play.

Absolutely! I couldn’t have said it better. Let’s first see how Fuse pans out. If it brings a decent game, with solid mechanics then why get stuck up on this mythical yarn of “innovation”. I mean honestly, what has the last 3 Call of Duty games brought to the table that was so innovative?

This is a new IP, give it at least half a chance.
