What? You don’t know what Adventure Time is? Sir, I don’t know you. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, consider it mix of Dungeons & Dragons, 8 bit Atari games and a truckload of adult innuendo laced with LSD. Episodes generally feature at least one video game reference, and it seems that series creator, Pendleton Ward, is keen on having the hit series adapted into its own video game.
“I’d be stoked to work on an Adventure Time video game. I think that might happen eventually if the show stays popular,” Ward said in an interview with GameInformer. Ward is as fanatical as anyone about games, something that has crept into his work time and time again, and has even admitted that future episodes of the hit show will be influenced by his current obsession with the Dead Island video game.
Speaking more about a potential video game, Ward explained how he felt that the medium was brilliant for telling stories, no matter which genre it was set in. “I think games are amazing for telling stories. I don’t think that people do that very often,” he said.
“I think story isn’t always the most important thing to game designers, but I wish it were. I think that the best games have stories, and when I eventually make games, story will be front and centre.”
“I vow to make a top notch game. If it was a small budget I’d work to make a side-scroller, but if we had the largest budget in the world I’d love to make something like Oblivion, but set in the Adventure Time universe where it’s a giant free-roaming world. It might be fun to make it have Monster Hunter style gameplay with Katamari graphics”.
A video game based on inside references, fantasy epics and mental-scarring scenarios? Count me in.
