PlanetSide 2

It’s really great to see eSports become so accessible to any one that wants to get involved. Some of the best games competed in are completely  free. Just look at League of Legends, probably the most successful eSports title of late and Dota 2 hot on its heals. Another one of these awesome games are joining the scene, PlanetSide 2, the game where size always matters. It’s becoming a part of the biggest eSports league this year.

Sony and Major League Gaming (MLG) have announced a partnership to create “ideal competitive gameplay features and settings” to showcase the first-person-shooter. What makes PlanetSide 2 unique in the range on first-person-shooters currently competed in, is that it’s a MMOFPS, massively multiplayer online first-person-shooter.

Sony and MLG will also work together to create original programming to air on MLG’s website and Twitch TV. PlanetSide 2 Stations will feature at MLG’s first Pro Circuit event this year – the Winter Championship in Dallas in March.

“PlanetSide 2 players are extremely loyal to their chosen Empires and when it comes to battling, they are beyond competitive and truly enjoy the in-game rivalries, so it was the natural next step for us to bring PlanetSide 2 to the most competitive eSports organization,” said John Smedley, President, Sony Online Entertainment. “We’re excited for this opportunity to work with MLG and are confident that their competitive gaming expertise can turn PlanetSide 2  into a premiere eSports platform, allowing us to extend the game experience and deliver new ways for players to interact with other players and the broader community, while  helping to further diversify and grow our audience.”

So, if you’re keen to play a really awesome free game, and it is both really awesome and free, check it out on Steam or take a gander over to the official website. The game scored 85 on Metacritic.
