Are we getting a Syndicate Wars sequel?

EA and Starbreeze relatively recently revived the good name of Syndicate – and then sullied it by releasing a decent, but flawed first-person shooter that capitalised on the brand’s name, without any of the good bits. Of course, shooters  are popular and squad-based isometric strategy games aren’t. Firaxis’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown reboot came along and changed that – and now we might be getting a sequel (or rather, spiritual successor) to Syndicate Wars.

That’s what’s suggested by a teaser video for a (sigh) crowd-funded game that’s going by the name of “Satellite Reign.” The video says it continues the legacy of a Bullfrog game from 1996, and features some pretty obvious cyberpunk imagery – and the only thing that comes to mind is Syndicate Wars.

It’s hit Kickstarter in 35 days. I’m pretty fed up with the crowdfunding model, but I might just hop onboard a hype train that stops at Syndicate station. If it’s just half as good as XCOM, it’ll be amazing.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
