If you were hoping to get some amazing modding tools for Battlefield 3, you know, like the kind that turn games like Call of Duty into Star Wars that we posted earlier, then you’re in for some bad news.

DICE have said that they have no plans to release official modding tools for Battlefield 3 due to the complex nature of the Frostbite 2 engine.

DICE’s Patrick Söderlund had the following to say:

“If you look at the Frostbite engine, and how complex it is, it’s going to be very difficult for people to mod the game, because of the nature of the set up of levels, of the destruction and all those things… it’s quite tricky. So we think it’s going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod.”

If you have already seen the videos of the incredibly amazing visuals that Battlefield 3 is going to be punting out as well as the kind of destruction that it is capable of, then it becomes easy to already see where things could get a little complex.

However, don’t be fooled into thinking that Battlefield 3 on PS won’t be seeing any mods, because remember that DICE is only saying that they aren’t releasing any official mod tools. That doesn’t mean that someone else couldn’t take the time to create tools of their own and from what we have seen in the past, there are plenty of those people… and they have tons of time on their hands.

The console versions of course, get absolutely nothing. I’m sure we can all look forward to some wonderfully priced DLC though…
