For all the inventive ideas videogames like to conjure up, so many of them boil down to one core concept: violence. There’s nothing really wrong with that, but it can get a little tripe and boring. nevermind restrictive. How many times have you played a game where you thought “this could’ve been far more interesting if I wasn’t forced to actually hit another digital being”. Not that many times? Well whatever, here’s a game where you’re a goose just being an absolutely ass to prove that you’re just wrong.
Seriously, this new title from the developers of Push Me, Pull You (and equally strange but utterly amazing multiplayer game) is all about being a goose. but not the scary, hissing guard dogs of some farms. The kind of goose that could only live and breathe in a videogame, where you’re tasked with making the life of a nearby gardener living hell. You’ll steal his hats, sandwiches and just but a general nuisance in a bid to scratch objectives off a list. And id that sounds ridiculous, it is. But it’s also a riot to watch.
A game about a goose wouldn’t work without a great art style, and that’s perhaps my favourite part of this entire thing. It’s isometric-ish camera view paired with some neat water colouring makes the pseudo-stealth game really pop, and sells the whimsical nature of the action you’re partaking in. Everything about this game shouldn’t work, but it does. Because it’s different, and eschews so many of the traditional tropes of games with a setting that you are entirely unfamiliar with. Innovation!
The game is currently without a title but is due out sometime next year. Even if this doesn’t look like your cup of tea, nothing can prevent you from at least giggling over Metal Goose Solid.
