Like Voltron, Chart tracking companies from around the world have combined to give us a peek at the top selling games of the year from around the globe. The NPD Group (North America), GfK Chart-Track (UK) and Enterbrain (Japan) have colluded to show you which games flew of shelves most worldwide. No mention of which formed the head.
Ok, not exactly world-wide, but it does cover the three biggest markets, so it’s a fairly accurate indicator. Unsurprisingly, the top selling game last year was Infinity Ward’s retail behemoth, Call of duty Modern Warfare 2 – which sold just under 12 million copies in less than two months.
Also unsurprisingly, the rest of the top 5 were first party Nintendo titles – all of which contain “Wii†in the title. Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wii fit Plus and Wii Fit all managed to sell by the boatload.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a great game – and I’m glad it’s getting the sales it is, but the rest of that nonsense? It’s the reason we’re inundated by useless plastic peripherals and the silly shift towards “motion based gamingâ€
