Bioware responds to the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy

So, if there’s one story that has been dominating headlines as of late, it’s the ending to the multi-year saga of the Mass Effect trilogy. Some fans have found closure in it, some have been puzzled by it, some have been disappointed in it and everyone else has bashed it with dangerous levels of rage and entitlement, demanding a new ending be inserted, post-haste!

I just finished Mass Effect 3 yesterday, and personally, I’m satisfied with it, but then again, I’ve got a back tattoo that reads “Renegade for life”, which has a Thresher Maw coiled over a Reaper skull. I’m still convinced that Sylvester Stallone stole the idea from me for his tattoo in The Expendables, but I can’t prove it. Yet.

But I’m drifting. Bioware hasn’t been sitting idly by while all this anger erupted around them, and they’ve issued the following response, which hints towards Mass Effect 3 getting some form of additional ending or modification at least, towards the current, hated epilogues.

Speaking on the official company forums, Bioware co-founder and GM Ray Muzkya confirmed that changes towards the game were indeed coming.

Since the game launched, the team has been poring over everything they can find about reactions to the game—industry press, forums, Facebook, and Twitter, just to name a few.

The Mass Effect team, like other teams across the BioWare Label within EA, consists of passionate people who work hard for the love of creating experiences that excite and delight our fans. I’m honored to work with them because they have the courage and strength to respond to constructive feedback.

To that end, Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You’ll hear more on this in April.

We’re working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we’ve received. This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue.

Which will probably be available for a premium price. Happiness, at only 1200 MS Points! Am I right?
